1980s Polytone Contempo G - Excellent Condition - New Frets/Pickups
1980s Polytone Contempo G - Natural Ash / Gold – Professional Refret - Seymour Duncan Pickup Upgrades A rare and excellent condition 1980s Polytone Contempo G, made in Japan, featuring beautiful natural ash grain, a double cut-away, abalone on top, a fresh fret job, new Seymour Duncan pickups for versatility, and new matching locking tuners for playability. A distinctive vintage guitar with exceptional character, professional upgrades for the modern player, and a cool connection to Los Angeles recording studio history. Condition - Excellent Beautiful vintage presentation. Only visible signs of wear are on the back (light scratching which can only be seen in the right light) and the all-original bridge hardware displays age-appropriate patina, including visible surface oxidation and tarnishing on the saddles. This is cosmetic in appearance and consistent with the instrument's vintage character (why pay for a custom "relic" job when this is the real thing). Premium Upgrades Professionally refretted by LA Guitar Repair using StewMac #154 medium-jumbo frets, with the nut professionally shimmed. Unplayed since. Pickups: Gold Seymour Duncan Phat Cat neck and High Voltage bridge. Original Pickups Included: Both original gold-covered pickups are included. Grover Locking Tuners: Matching gold, direct drop-in replacements with no headstock drilling. Minimal Modification: Only the original plastic pickup mounting rings were given holes to accommodate the new humbuckers. Zero modifications to the guitar body. Original pickups can be dropped in easily if desired. Maximum versatility - one set of humbuckers for rock/blues, another for jazz. Case: Padded Epiphone case included. Japanese Guitars in the 1980s Japanese guitars made in the 70's and 80's were known for their extremely high quality builds, widely considered to be better than builders like Gibson and Fender at the time. Japanese guitar manufacturers were at their peak, and this guitar is from that era. A Unique Piece of Music History This guitar has been in my family for decades. My father managed Amigo Studios in Los Angeles during the 1980s and 1990s. He acquired this instrument directly from Polytone founder Tommy Gumina, via a trade involving studio time for legendary jazz guitarist Joe Pass. Why I'm Selling I'm selling as I’m learning another instrument and would rather see someone play / perform / record with this than have it sit in the closet. Not in a rush to sell, would love to see it go to an epic player. Thanks for looking!
