1966 Manuel Velázquez Classical Guitar – Brazilian Rosewood / Spruce
Exceptional 1966 Manuel Velázquez from New York — spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, French polish, Lansdorfer tuners, ebony fingerboard. Original "Constructor de Guitarras – New York" label. Hardshell case included. Velázquez (1917–2014) is the most important American classical guitar maker of the 20th century. Segovia endorsed his work; the Guitar Foundation of America honored him with its Industry Leadership Award in 1996. Guitar Salon International said his guitars yield "nothing in craftsmanship or sound to his Spanish or German contemporaries." His solo-period New York instruments — 10 to 15 per year, entirely by hand — are the most collectible. 1966 is right at the start of his final New York solo period before his 1972 return to Puerto Rico. Brazilian rosewood, French polish, Lansdorfer machines — a benchmark example. Small repaired back crack — stable and fully disclosed. Excellent condition otherwise. 651mm scale, 53mm nut, action 3.5/3.5. Come play it at Mill Valley Guitars. Trades for other high end Classicals considered
